margay propaganda for the @little-cat-showdown poll:

margays are a small cat similar to the oncilla and the better-known ocelot in appearance and range. they're native to the extremely dense tropical rainforests of central and south america, and they're very, very cute.

they're the only member of the Leopardus genus still in the little cat showdown-- the oncilla and pampas cat were eliminated in the first round; the kodkod, ocelot, andean mountain cat, and geoffrey's cat were eliminated in the second. Leopardus have fewer chromosomes than other felids and are the oldest genetic branch of American small cats!

some unique things about margays: - as i understand it, they're the only fully arboreal/tree-dwelling cat! their wrists can rotate a full 360°, making them the only small cat able to climb straight down trees just as easily as they climb up, dangle upside-down, etc. (clouded leopards are the only large cat with this adaptation, and even they spend a lot of time on the ground while hunting) - they're talented mimics and will imitate the distress calls of an infant of their prey species to attract prey while hunting! while there are reports of other American cat species (jaguars and pumas) doing the same, margays are currently the only one we have a confirmed recording of

i'm also biased towards them bc i'm a margay therian + furry and i'm not used to seeing my species on these kinds of polls, let alone seeing it get so far. but i think, especially with how small this poll is, that we have a real shot of making it to the finals! if you send me proof of voting for margays in the current little cat showdown poll, i'll make a moodboard of your choice or do a traditional headshot doodle of a character of your choice. we're currently losing by 2% of 330 votes--that's just six votes. here's a picture of my fursona as drawn by/commissioned from @esmeraldablazingsky as thanks for reading this, plus a doodle drawn by myself to demonstrate my headshot doodle abilities!

To everycat that reblogged and voted in my poll in good faith, I thank you.

Clearly something fishy is afoot, whether that's from kits birthed for the purpose of this poll, or popular blogs like @​mouse and @swanstar-official badgering their kittypet followers to vote for their Clan. And clearly the subversion does not come from all sides in this debate. I have half a mind to declare ThunderClan the winner, just out of spite.

If RiverClan or ShadowClan 'wins' by cheating, fraud, intimidation, and manipulation, does that 'prove' that it is the best? Hardly. It only proves that such Clans are willing to gain any advantage by any means—including dishonorable ones. Can you trust that such cats won't resort to dirty tactics in snout-to-snout interactions? Eda Clawthorne-The Owl House

Qualifications:

She has a magical chronic disorder which has flare-ups, is mitigated by taking medication (potions), and has similar side effects to many real disorders such as fatigue, greying hair, and physical impairment (drains magic, a natural ability of *most witches). Unlike in other stories however, her condition is NOT ever completely cured. It does evolve and become more manageable over the course of the story, but she still experiences symptoms from it. Eda also loses one of her arms later in the story. She does get a replacement hook, but it is never shown whether she has a functional prosthetic or not. Most likely, she only has one fully functioning arm after this. As for being queer, she is in a relationship with a nonbinary person and is all but confirmed bisexual (has a secret box with the bi flag on it seriously why else would she have this). Also the owl house has a Lot of queer characters in it and I mean. just look at her. I would be surprised if she wasn't queer somehow.

Has canonically dated both men and a non-binary person. Her curse affects her ability to use magic (and at one point outright stops it), which is very important in witch life. Many have said her curse is like a metaphor for depression but really it's more like a magic version of a physical disability (although I wouldn't be surprised if she actually also had depression).

A knight, Nimona's best friend and father figure of sorts, but the plot mostly revolves around him- Ballister is framed for murder and has to hide while trying to figure out who framed him and how to prove he's innocent. Nimona becomes his sidekick (he didn't want one, she just showed up at his place one day like a very chaotic stray cat) and together they form a great duo against the corrupt government. This is complicated by Ballister's ex Ambrosius, who accidentally cut off Ballister's arm and is a bit brainwashed by government propaganda. Oops. You should watch Nimona it's great 💞🦈

Personality: Rocket is a shy and timid, yet very sweet individual once you get to know them! They're a lover of all things stars, aliens, and space, and they're also one of the coziest Shadow Androids around! You might catch them cozied up in a nest of blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals, or you can even catch them in an oversized sweater or onesie!

Once they get to know you, they're pretty much like a VERY affectionate cat. They'll relax on your lap, snuggle you for hours on end, and maybe even take a little nap where they sit. Rocket doesn't speak very much ( selective mutism. ), but rather they tend to chirp, purr, and make other animalistic sounds as their main form of communication!

Speaking of animalistic tendencies... Rocket has other behaviours as well! Such as loving to scamper around on all 4s, bringing back small animals ( or even Mobians on some occassions! ) as presents to those that they care about, and making nests for themselves to sleep in!

I decided to try and start another tournament, this time a little more broad: instead of genes, this will be the contest of colors! So welcome everyone to the

Cat Color Tournament

Rules:

Unlike the previous one with the genes, this tournament will be submission-based. There are literally thousands of possible combinations, i can't include everything. You can submit colors via the google from below or by sending me an ask.

You can submit any possible coloration, and send a breed or a specific cat to represent it. If you nominate a color without a picture, don't worry, probably i can find one myself.

You can just send a picture, and if i can tell the color based on that picture, i'll include it. (So you don't have to know the official name of your cat's color to nominate it.)

Try to submit as genetically definable colors as you can. (Example: don't write simply tortoiseshell, specify it: black tortoiseshell, cinnamon tortoiseshell mackerel tabby, blue tortoiseshell point, light amber tortoiseshell with white, ect. You get it.)

In the form I'm asking for your tumblr username; this way i'll be able to ask for clarifications if needed. If you choose to leave that part empty and i have doubts, i'll make a post to let my followers decide what the submission count as.

I'll organise the tournament if i get at least 16 different color submissions. If this is fulfilled, i'll add my own favourites, and wait to close the submissions as long as it pleases me. I'm quite patient.

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE DANGEROUS STRING TOURNEY!

I've set up this tournament to celebrate a type of character that I've always loved from when I was a little, and that's characters that fight with or regularly use different and dangerous types of string for mobility or other reasons!

For the sake of clarity, the things that are considered a dangerous string are

String

Rope

Wire (smooth, barbed etc)

Chain

Whip

Hair (at the mercy of my discretion)

String like energy constructs (also at my discretion)

other things that heavily involve string such as Yo-yos (BOWS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED, the string does not play a big enough part I'm sorry)

Other Rules

Multiple characters can be submitted if they all use dangerous strings and work closely as a unit.

Feel free to submit an image of your submission either via upload or link (preferably transparent and / or with the character utilising their dangerous string)

You can submit as many characters as you want, but only one character/ group at a time please

If I get a lot of submissions for the same character I'll add them to this post so people know they don't need to submit them again

A character being totally canon LGBTQ+ and disabled was not required to be in this competition. Please check qualifications and propaganda before asking why a character is included.

Gobber-How To Train Your Dragon

Qualifications:

He has a prosthetic arm and a prosthetic leg. And is confirmed to be gay (in an admittedly really weird way :/)

Propaganda:

He's gay. He's disabled. He's a viking. He's good at his job. He has a stone tooth. He uses his arm prosthetic like a toolbelt. He knows a lot about dragons. Idk man. He's cool

Zhou Zishu-Faraway Wanderers / Tian Ya Ke

Qualifications:

He is mlm, though there's no consensus in fandom whether he's bi or gay. (He had slept with women prior to meeting his male love interest, but the way he speaks of that kinda doesn't make it sound like he enjoyed it? So there's room for interpretation. Maybe hes bi who just happened to settle with a man, maybe hes a late bloomer gay.) Either way, the novel's main romance is his relationship with another man, and they are in a committed relationship by the end! Now, for the disability part. He has a physical disability that's a result of, how do I put it, non-realistic circumstances (stabbing poisoned nails into his acupoints non-realistic), but I think it qualifies for how it affects him.

To start with, he is a martial artist, but the nails thing limits him to about half of his normal ability. Which is still pretty significant given he used to be one of the top talents of his generation, but there are many instances throughout the book where he finds himself frustrated, inconvenienced, or endangered by being unable to do what he *used to* be able to do, which I think tracks with acquired disability experience. Next, the nails also give him chronic pain issues with daily (or rather, nightly) flare ups, and additional ones when he strains himself. That usually last for several hours. (Fandom also theorizes that this leaves him chronically sleep deprived, but it's more conjecture than textual.)

Then, his biggest issue is that the nails are slowly killing him, and he has like 2-3 years to live... but uh given it's a happy ending novel his friend gives him an experimental surgery and it works out. But! Gotta note that I don't think it counts as a case of 'magically cured disability' trope. It is plainly stated that he will still have some issues post-surgery - just, y'know, no longer life-ending ones. The tl;dr here is that while his situation is not something possible in the real world, it still affects him in a way an acquired physical disability may: limits things he can do compared to his pre-injury state, results in chronic pain issues, and requires difficult medical intervention to stymie the negative effects.

Propaganda:

Zhou Zishu, how do I explain him... He is a spymaster and an assassin. He put the current Emperor on the throne. He committed atrocities. He lost the person he saw as his little brother as a result. He still thinks he did what was right, in the grand scheme of things. He decides to start his retirement at age 28 by stabbing a bunch of poisoned nails into his chest, disguising himself as a beggar, and vanishing into jianghu to daydrink and sightsee. He is living his best life, all 3 remaining years of it. He is in pain every night. He meets a man who, unexpectedly, understands him with a glance... and then begins to annoy him ceaselessly, insisting he has fallen for Zishu at first sight.

Cue Zhou Zishu's horrified realization that he's not only into men, but into this clown in particular. Zishu falls in love the way a cat falls into a bath - hes trying to get out but keeps slipping back, and hes hissing all the while. (We love to bully him for his clownsexual ways.) (Also, if this makes anybody want to check out the novel, remember: Zhou Zishu is an unreliable narrator and Will lie to you. Pay attention to his actions and reactions, not just what he *says* he thinks!) Now, I could spend hours gushing about how WenZhou (the couple's ship name, and yes they are canon and the main romantic storyline) gave me unrealistic standards for romance, but I'm gonna hold myself back from writing a 6k essay and focus on the theme of the tournament. I consider Zhou Zishu a disabled protagonist because: while his situation itself is non-realistic (aforementioned 'stabbing a bunch of poisoned nails into his chest'), the way it affects him is actually pretty similar, and in some ways really the same, to how an acquired physical disability may affect a person. First, it limits what he can do, physical activity-wise, to about half of his pre-injury state. (Which is still rather a lot, given he used to be a top dog martial artist, but it's still noticeable to him.) Second, it gives him chronic pain issues, with nightly flare-ups. (And additional ones when he strains himself.) (Also, at a certain point in the book his love interest starts holding him through his flare ups. Which doesn't lessen the pain but does help Zishu cope with it better. It's very important to me that it doesn't magically help but it does Mentally help and thats enough. The "stay with him morning and night, holding his hand" of it all (; v ;) yes thats a quote from the book.) And third, it requires a difficult surgery to stymie its negative effects (him dying in three years ones). (Yeah btw its not the case of magic surgery perfectly 'fixing' (bleugh) the character; he still need physical-therapy-analogue after it, and his uh medical professional also states he will likely still have some issues post-op.)
